3 Ways To Find Amazing Apartments

I’ve been a DC renter for over 6 years. I’ve had three apartments and have used every site imaginable during my #apartmentsearch. I like to think that I’m pretty good at finding apartments, so I want to share my top 3 places to look for killer apartments to make it easier on everyone else!

Apartment List

Apartment List is the best place to find apartments. PERIOD.

I’ve used the app to find my last two apartments, and I can’t say enough good things about it! (FYI, Apartment List sponsors posts on my TikTok & IG, but the love is real). The app is set up like the love child between Hinge & Tinder, but unlike those apps, you’ll find #theone! Apartment List asks you for everything you’re looking for in an apartment, such as price, amenities, and location, and then they create a list of ‘best matches’ for you to choose from.

If you’re not using Apartment List, you’re doing your apartment search wrong!

Friends…They’re The Best

The second best way to find killer apartments is to ask your friends. If they live in a cool building, there is a good chance that they will know when another unit will become available, and you can snag it without much competition.

Quick Tip: If you’re looking for roommates or group houses, join local Facebook groups. I’m not into the group thing, but it’s a great way to live in an amazing space for cheap. Keep your eyes open & ears to the ground.

Take a Walk In the Neighborhood

Considering moving to a new neighborhood? Always go visit the area in question. This will allow you to see what it’s like at different times a day, and you can keep an eye out for “For Rent” signs. Smaller property managers & homeowners that dabble as landlords don’t always put their properties online. They simply advertise the old-fashioned way - with a sign on the yard. Now the quality of these apartments can vary, but I’ve seen people get lucky.

That’s it for now, but in the meantime, follow me on TikTok for more apartment hunting tips!

Happy Hunting,
