PREVIEW: Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Collection with Otto Studio

THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS

If you’re keeping up with me on Instagram, you’ll know… I’m designing a peel-and-stick wallpaper collection with Otto Studio. Coming later this year, the collection will feature 3-5 patterns in a array of color ways.

What is Otto Studio?

Founded in 2021 by Hannah and Jen, Otto Studio creates contemporary peel-and-stick wallpapers driven by a love of art and design with the mission of helping renters and homeowners find joy in their space. Through in-house and artists collaborations, Otto Studio creates some of the more interesting and unique patterns on the market.

I learned about Otto Studio back in 2022, and used their Anni in Daydream pattern all over my studio apartment closet and was so impressed with the quality. Made with natural fibers and premium vinyl, the products are dimensionally stable and won’t shrink up over time! Outside of my collection, see the renderings later in the post, these are my favorite patterns from Otto Studio so far.

Where did you find the inspiration for the collection?

This conversation about developing a wallpaper line started back in February 2023. Over a zoom call, Hannah and Jen pitched the idea of a collection and asked me what I was looking to create. I’ll admit, I was at a loss for ideas.

As a decorator, I’m always pissed when I can’t find the exact pattern or color I’m looking for, but when you put in a position to do almost anything, I didn’t know where to start. But, when I took on the challenge to create a line that represented me I was determined to succeed. I culled my Pinterest board for inspo (seen above) and came up with the theme.

“This is gonna sound really crazy, but…”

That phrase, one I always use before sharing my design plans with my Homies or when I’m just talking things out with my friends and family, left me open to create something as bold and interesting as I wanted.

I thought about how to bring my love of structural art, textured knit and shiny surfaces into a wallpaper line. I wanted color, but nothing too bright - dusty pinks, greens, and golds are more my speed.

Later on in the process, I created hand drawings to further illustrate my ideas. Over martinis at Reveler’s Hour, I doodled arrows based on a post card from a recent dinner at Pineapple and Pearls and the orbs based on this $1,000 wall hanging from The Citizenry. The drawings were shaky and I was so nervous that Jen, the designer at Otto Studio, wouldn’t be able to translate what I see in my head into a real life.

But, her talent in undeniable. Keep reading to see the renderings.

What’s Next?

As of two weeks ago, we’re in the process of refining the color palette and doing test prints to see what the final collection will look like. The renderings below aren’t the finals, so expect a few changes when the collection goes live!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
