The Story of Imani At Home

Everyone remembers when the world stopped! In March 2020, I got laid off from my part-time gig, and had my hours cut by 20% at my full-time job. Overnight, I went from spending nights & weekend mornings in my studio apartment to spending all day, every day, in less than 500 square feet…

I was depressed. And I needed an outlet.

So, I went to Ace Hardware, the only open, and I created! I started with an IKEA dresser flip and then the projects got bigger.

Soon after, my depression lifted, and I began to love my tiny space again. By July 2020, I caught the DIY bug and wanted to share my work with people outside my family, so I started Imani At Home on Instagram, and the rest was history.

Where do you live?

I live in Washington, D.C.

You rent your home! Why?

I'm what they call a "forever renter"… I love the ease of 24-hour maintenance and having all utilities included. Plus, the way home prices in D.C. are set up, it's cheaper for me to rent than buy a house.

How would you describe your style?

If I had to put it in just a few words, I'd say… Neutral Maximalism meets Eclectic Coziness.

What kind of dog is Sal?

He's a Yorkie and the most fabulous dog ever!

Are you an interior designer?

Nope! I love interior designers but I didn't go to school for design, nor do I have their skillset. So a more accurate term for me is Interior Decorator, but DIY Extroidinnaire also works!
