DIY Punch List: What's Left To Do In My Studio Apartment

I'm planning to move in 2023 - I shared this particular piece of hot gossip in my newsletter, so subscribe! But just because my lease is up in six months doesn't mean the DIYs will stop… Oh, no! I have a lengthy list of projects I hope to accomplish, and here they are…

Will I get them all done? 🤷🏾‍♀️ Who knows, but I'll share the process with you all the same.

Dining Room

  • I'm n desperate need of a new dining room table. The current cast iron one is beautiful but unstable. Despite many efforts to fix it, nothing has worked, so it's time for something new. And perhaps, circular? I’m looking at this one, but I’d prefer something vintage.

  • After seeing Anthony of 136 Home's dining room, I've become obsessed with the idea of having a bench seat with adorable cushions. Soooo, that's what I'm going to do. It will run across the back wall with two chairs on the outer side. I picked up one chair from a thrift store, but here are a few other "vintage-ish" chairs I love.

  • New rug? I love my current rug, but it's too small. I'm going to replace it with a 5x7. I'm still trying to figure out the pattern. It will depend on the fabric I pick for the bench cushions.

  • Picture lights! I've already purchased these lights to make my most unique pieces pop. Install coming soon!

Entryway

Testing these paint color for the entryway and dining room in my studio apartment.

The four Sherwin Williams colors I’m considering. Comment your fav!

  • Oh, yes! I'm going to cover up the dalmatian spots! It's not because I don't like them or anything; more or less, I want to try something new. I'm considering many different colors, but my inspiration comes from Alexandra Tolstoy’s house tour.

  • My favorite storage solution for renters will also get an upgrade. Maybe, I'll do a grasscloth peel-and-stick cover like Clare on TikTok did for her NYC Apartment.

  • I'm gonna change up the flush mount, as well. The current one never worked, but it was under $50, so I can't be too upset. I shared my favorite lighting for every room in your apartment; check it out!

  • New Art! I'm working with Artfully Walls on an upcoming project so I won't give away too much, but I'll give you a hint… I'm doing another gallery wall.

Living Room/Bedroom

  • Say bye-bye to the Black wall! I know it's the most iconic part of my apartment, but it's time to go. The Black is tough to photograph against, and I'm ready for a change. FYI, this color will be the same as the one in the entryway.

I considered switching out my bed for a brief moment, but I've decided to save that for the new apartment when I can finally upgrade to a queen-sized bed! I know it seems a bit silly to make all these changes before a move, but what can I say… I love to DIY!

xoxo, Imani
