FAQ’s About My 490-Square Foot Studio Apartment

THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY NEVER TOO SMALL

This has been the biggest week of my little life. First, I launched Home-ish, a 100% ad-free subscriber community for design-obsessed people that hosts design classes and exclusive giveaways.

The most significant moment in my career happened! My apartment tour with Never Too Small is LIVE on YouTube! NVTS Renters, a new series, focuses solely on renters, and I'm honored to be the second person in the collab.

We shot this campaign a few months ago - way before I re-painted my apartment, and I'm so excited by the response. To everyone who's texted or DM'd - thank you, thank you! While reading the comments on the video - something everyone has told me not to do - I noticed a few consistent questions that have come up all the time and figured there was no time like the present to make a comprehensive list of all the questions get most often. So, here are the answers to my FAQs

How Much Is The Rent?

Jumping in with the most important question… My rent is $1364/month with all utilities included. I live in a rent-controlled building. If my apartment wasn’t rent controlled, it would cost about $1700/month.

Can I See A Floorplan?

Of course you can! My place is considered a 'large' studio since my kitchen/dining area is entirely separate from my living space. I have two very large closets - one at the entryway and another across from the bathroom. All of my windows are on one side, which kinda sucks if I'm being honest.

What Did It Look Like Before?

My apartment used to be a big white box with unique floors and horrific boob lights. I didn’t actually see my unit until two weeks before I moved in, which I do not recommend, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the look of this place and what I was able to do with it.

Where Can I Get That Wallpaper?

The ‘Shop My Home’ section is updated all the time with everything in my space & dupes for the stuff that’s vintage or discontinued. But here is quick access to every wallpaper you'll find in my space.

What Does Your Landlord Think/Say?

I got my bi-annual inspection a few weeks ago and my landlord doesn't care - you can watch their reaction here. They said they like everything I've done in the space.

Before my kitchen makeover, I reached out to my landlord with this email template to ask for permission to change out the sink and install a new faucet. They said no to some things but were happy to see me update the space. In fact, they offered to do the work for me, which saved me a few hundred dollars!

What Happens When You Move Out?

When I leave, I will have to remove everything and return this space to the big white box I once knew. I used to feel annoyed by this idea, but ever since I got a paint sprayer, I've been excited about covering the floors and windows and going to town.
