Renter-Friendly Storage Solutions for Small Space Living

“I’m probably the only person who lives in a studio apartment where lack of storage isn’t an issue,”

— Imani At Home in Domino.com

I said those infamous words in my Domino feature last year, and it still holds! But, it’s not the size of my apartment that makes it possible for me to be a maximalist… Oh no, that credit belongs to the smart storage choices I’ve made whilst living in my 490-square foot studio apartment! This week on Imani's Home Favorites, I'm sharing products to help maximize space in small apartments. Keep reading to discover my top tips!

Storage Solutions

Baskets, Baskets, Baskets - baskets have the run of my home! A lidded basket, like this one, would be perfect for things like laundry, while this one is perfect for extra throw blankets in the living area!

Watch this - Styling baskets in a hallway

Add a rod - if you've got a taller closet - consider adding a rod like this halfway down! You get an extra layer of hanging space perfect for shirts & folded jeans!

Extra Tip - Use slim hangers like these to save more space!

Box It Up: These shoe boxes from the Container Store are a lifesaver! I keep mine stacked under the bed, which is an excellent hiding spot for things you need, but don't want to see every day.

Flat Storage - I hide a lot of home decor under my Ikea Farlov sofa, and I encourage everyone to do the same. Flat storage boxes like these are perfect for winter clothes.

Ikea Ställ or Hemnes Shoe Cabinets - This is my #1 product for small space living, which is why it's always sold out! At 6 inches & 8 inches deep, respectively, these are great in a small entryway.

Can’t Wait? This one is similar & in stock!

Hooks 4 All - Hooks are inexpensive ways to add storage in awkward places like behind your door, inside the closet, or in an entryway! Here are a few of my favorites!

A China Cabinet?- Ok, here me out! If you've got a nook or empty wall, consider adding a china cabinet or hutch like this one! Cabinets can take up space, but they also hold a lot of stuff.

Shopping Tip - save money & find one at your local thrift store. Check out Community Forklift!

Acrylic Shelves - If you want that luxe spa look, consider adding these shelves to your bathroom to display your 10-step skincare routine, of course! They're also great at holding sunglasses. 😎

That’s all my picks for this week! If you want to knowhow to add super-secret storage to your small apartment, watch this video! Otherwise, I’ll see y’all next week when we're talking about lighting!

xoxo,  Imani
